La Jolla mansions and beautiful beaches are not all this fantastic community is known for. Even though La Jolla is a small city, it boasts a fine selection of cultural arts that attract many people to both visit and live in this ocean-side village. Although just walking around the village will expose you to art in all forms spilling out from the many galleries and shops, La Jolla also has two of the areas most notable art institutions in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. Both offer a taste of culture that very few small communities the size of La Jolla can claim.
– Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. The La Jolla MCASD houses an internationally recognized collection of art created since the 1950’s. The works represent all types of media and there are new exhibits and programs throughout the year, keeping it new and exciting to visit over and over again. There is also talk of adding an additional 30,000 square feet of exhibition space, if the funding is found to do so.
– Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. The Anthenaeum is another one of La Jolla’s cultural treasures. It is one of only 16 non-profit libraries of its kind in the U.S. The library holds a variety of arts and music media, including books, reference resources, CDs, video, sheet music and periodicals. The Athenaeum also holds art exhibitions, classes, concerts and many other special art events.
Those who live in a La Jolla luxury home over looking the ocean can feel like they are getting away from it all, while still having access to culture and arts right in their backyard. It is an amazing community that combines the wonderful natural scenery with man-made music and art for those who crave beauty in all of its forms.
