This weekend will bring in the full moon in August, making it the perfect time to spend an evening in La Jolla. While sunny days on the pristine beaches are fantastic, there is something to be said about standing under the night sky on the beach with the moon at its fullest. To make it even better, the Birch Aquarium is offering a rare opportunity to enjoy this magically weekend on the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier.
On August 9th and 10th, the aquarium is hosting a Full Moon Pier Walk, where participants can go out on this iconic pier that is usually closed to the public. The pier is used by the scientific community for research; however, this weekend it will host an educational tour under the full moon. The walks will be guided by aquarium naturalists that will discuss the history of Scripps Oceanography and the research that is conducted there. To learn more about the walks, visit the aquarium’s website.
