One of the many attractions that makes La Jolla a phenomenal community is the weekly Open Aire Market. Every Sunday over 100 vendors bring their wares to sell fresh produce, locally made artwork and of course, a wide array of food booths to tempt your taste buds. The market was started by the Friends of La Jolla Elementary, Inc. Board with the help of the San Diego School District and many community groups. It opened on October 25th, 1998 and has grown and prospered since then, with many of the proceeds benefiting the school.
October Events At The Open Aire Market
To show your support of this great community treasure, make sure you take the time to go to the market in October. There are a few free special events planned to make it worth the trip, as well as all the goodies that are there every Sunday.
– La Jolla Art & Wine Festival. Come visit the fifth annual Art & Wine Festival on October 12th & 13th. This event is at Prospect Ave. and Kline St., on lower Girard Ave in the Village with over 150 artists. The event is free, with cash donations accepted at the entrances.
– Free Family Activities. From September through May, every third Sunday will have free fun family activities at the market.
– Live Entertainment. Every Sunday enjoy free live music at the market while you browse the market or enjoy a quick meal.
Whether you live in a La Jolla mansion or sublet a townhouse as a weekend getaway, the La Jolla Open Aire Market is for everyone to enjoy. Not only can you find the freshest produce and unique crafts, it benefits the local schools and children in the community. What a great way to spend a Sunday!
