For several years athletes have converged on La Jolla to participate in the event formerly known as the Shark Bait Classic. This one mile swim, six mile run is a free event with donations benefiting the Scholarship Fund at San Diego Mustangs Youth Rugby Club. However, this year the event has changed its name to a less-threatening title, La Jolla Swim-Run Classic (LJRSC), though you can be sure that you will still hear it referred to as the Shark Bait event.
Participants will swim one mile from La Jolla Cove to La Jolla Shores, then run six-miles back to the Cove where they will be rewarded with a picnic. Those living in the surrounding La Jolla luxury homes may be able to see the swimmers from their decks as they make their way across the blue waters. The event will be on October 12th this year at begin at 9:30 am. Everyone is welcome to come cheer on the competitors and those who want to join in the fun can register on the LJSRC website.
It is events like the LJSRC that make it such a joy to live in La Jolla. Luxury homes and beautiful beaches are great but it is the sense of community and the fun spirit that really make this town sparkle! Come join in the fun on October 12th and you will see what I am talking about.
