While there may be a lack of polar bears in La Jolla, New Year’s Day will have plenty of people joining in on the annual Polar Bear Plunge at La Jolla Cove. The annual event is sponsored by the La Jolla Cove Swim Club and will involve a 2-mile swim in the Pacific for those who participate, along with fun and food for those who just want to watch. What better way to bring in 2014 than with a day on the beach in La Jolla?
Anyone can participate in the swim, which will start at 10 am. Swimmers should meet on the lawn at La Jolla Shores where there will be a big banner. There is no cost to do the swim or to watch. There will be a potluck after the swim and everyone is encouraged to bring a warm dish such as chili or soup to share with the cold swimmers and onlookers.
The Polar Bear Plunge is just another great community event that happens in La Jolla, making this a great place to call home. All year round this beautiful beach town offers fun activities and festivals that are often free and make living the La Jolla life all that more enjoyable.
